Here is the skinny on the transponder issue. First let me explain some of the issues with the cigar style transponder units.
The system that uses this type of transponder is not designed to run the multiple race format that we run. WORCS has co-sanctioned with TORO and STORM and each has never been able to keep up the pace we require with high accuracy. Each of these crews has a great scoring staff that knows how to run the system very well. It is a system issue and not a staffing issue. By using this style transponder you must bring it to scoring every time before each race since each club like TORO, STORM or TCCRA assigns your transponder a unique number. The last issue is that the narrow 5mph scoring chute that must be used, compared to wide open under a 20' span that the WORCS transponder is capable of.
TORCS will use the active tag that we loaned out at round 1. Every member will need to purchase this transponder in the future. The cost is $40 for this transponder. By using these transponders and the Trackside scoring program you get far superior accuracy at speed and the best web reporting software available. We have received many positive comments about how the race results are reported on the web.
The bottom line is this. I would rather apologize for our members having to buy these transponders than apologize for slow results and less refined web reporting.
